It's All About Attitude

So You Want to be Successful?

It’s all about attitude.

God tells us to choose life. In the same way, we choose the attitude we walk through life with. Especially in times of trouble, we can choose. We can be fearful, angry, sullen--or we can choose to have a good attitude regardless of what life throws at us. No one says this will be easy, but I suspect it will bring about better results. We are the ones that choose how we live our lives. Living successfully involves attitude.

On the importance of attitude, Charles R. Swindoll wrote:

"The longer I live, the more I realize the impact of attitude on life. Attitude, to me, is more important than facts. It is more important than the past, than education, than money, than circumstances, than failures, than successes, than what other people think or say or do. It is more important than appearance, giftedness or skill. It will make or break a company… a church… a home. The remarkable thing is we have a choice every day regarding the attitude we will embrace for that day."

“We cannot change our past… we cannot change the fact that people will act in a certain way. We cannot change the inevitable. The only thing we can do is play on the one string we have, and that is our attitude… I am convinced that life is 10% what happens to me and 90% how I react to it. And so it is with you… we are in charge of our attitudes"

..........I needed this reminder today..........

I have a chronic condition that flares up for 5-6 months at a time. It is uncomfortable and very painful, and the doctors don’t know what it is. Working through the medical system is frustrating and painstakingly slow. By the time I can see a specialist, the problem is gone for the time. When you’re in constant pain; when your quality of life is almost unbearable; when you cannot do the things you want, it is easy to let a good attitude fall by the wayside as well. After all, what is there to be grateful about?

Well...there’s a lot to be grateful for! I could fill a book of how good God has been to me! Having a bad attitude really doesn’t help any situation. Choose to be the best you can be no matter what your circumstances are!

“Ability is what you’re capable of doing; motivation determines what you do; attitude determines how well you do it.”
Lou Holz

UPDATE: About a year after this post, my condition was finally properly diagnosed and after 20 years of dealing with the pain, it's amazing how little it took to treat it! I am so happy and for the most part, pain free!

Be kind to others, you don't know what they're going through!

Until next time,

  1. Thank you, Carmen. There is something in here that I needed to read very much today. I am so sorry to hear you're not feeling well. I've gone through similar frustrations with fibromyalgia and I know how wering it can be to be in pain. {{gentle hugs}}

  2. Hey --you are speaking to me here. When I try to get my attitude in a good place--it is so much easier to deal with concerns. Do you have fibromyalgia?

  3. Hi Carmen,

this is such an important message. I pray that you have a little relief this weekend. It's a great reminder that our attitude is so critical to our situations.

  5. Thank you all so much! It's a good reminder for all of us.

  6. "Your attitude should be the same as that of Christ Jesus." -Phil. 2:5

When I hear 'attitude', this is the passage I think of, and it's interesting that the 5 translations I looked through all use the same word in this passage. The KJV is different using the phrase "Let this mind be in you" which is very strong, yes?

But RIGHT! And when you choose, in your God-given freewill, to have the mind of Christ, even as you are physically pained, then you have chosen as He would. And, beyond that, He hears your prayers, knows your pain and will be the God of all comfort, meeting you where you are. I'll be praying for you!

    90% reaction....I believe it!

  7. Nice reminder. People with good attitudes stand out significantly.

I really appreciate your insights! Thanks for visiting!
